McDonald’s Savonlinna – New Build and Turnkey Project

MH-Rakenne executed the new McDonald’s restaurant in Savonlinna as a complete turnkey contract.

The project was built according to concept plans provided by McDonald’s, including erection of the building from prefabricated elements, plus construction of yard areas, parking lot, and trash shelter.

The building’s total area is 350 m², with a peak workforce of 10–15 professionals on site.

Foundation work progressed quickly due to the even terrain, and the project stayed on its tight schedule for fall handover.

Local firms handled LVIS and earthworks (Ecutiimi Talotekniikka Oy, Sioma Oy, and ON Kone Oy).

The finished restaurant offers about 80 customer seats plus a drive-thru lane. It employs around 60 people and adds significant value to local services.

ABC Pitkäjärvi – Extensive Interior Renovation of a Service Station and Service Area Upgrade

MH-Rakenne served as the main contractor for the extensive €3.3 million renovation project at ABC Pitkäjärvi in Mikkeli. The project included a complete overhaul of interior spaces, modernization of restaurant and market areas, and significant expansion of services to form a modern service station concept.

ABC Pitkäjärvi Renovation MH-RakenneThe renovation renewed all interior spaces from floor to ceiling. Essentially only the load-bearing structures and roof beams remained from the old station.

Spaces expanded by about 80 m² when the former outdoor terrace was converted into a heated restaurant area.

Service offerings grew substantially with the addition of a Hesburger 24/7 drive-thru lane, pizza counter, and expanded market lines.

New color schemes, furnishings, and modern technical solutions elevated the station’s appearance to meet today’s customer expectations.

The site included extensive interior finishing, building services, and furnishing work, plus outdoor area upgrades. Energy efficiency improvements were implemented, such as renewing cold display units and updating building services.

During the renovation, fuel dispensing, car wash, and electric charging operated normally, requiring exceptionally precise phase planning and safe site management.

ABC Pitkäjärvi was completely renewed and opened to customers as planned in early December. The service station employs about 30 people and operates 24/7.

JYSK Savonlinna – 1,300 m² Store KVR Contract

Jysk MH RakenneMH-Rakenne served as the main contractor for building the new JYSK store in Savonlinna’s Kartanonväylä area. This was a KVR project where MH handled both design and execution within the client’s framework. The total scope is 1,300 m².

Construction started in the fall, with about 12 construction professionals and subcontractors on site for foundations and excavations. Building progressed as planned and stayed on schedule throughout—completed by late September. The store follows JYSK’s new concept, featuring four rotating inspiration spaces and an expanded warehouse area for faster product availability to customers.

The client, Kokkola-based Oy Rainer Nygård Ab—a long-term JYSK partner—publicly praised MH-Rakenne for workmanship quality, schedule management, and especially the company’s modern, proactive approach, including social media marketing and additional service development.

According to JYSK’s regional manager, the new store aligns with the chain’s concept renewal, offering customers a better shopping experience and double the warehouse space compared to the previous store.

The project strengthened MH-Rakenne’s position as a deliverer of modern retail buildings and serves as proof for larger retail projects nationwide.

Savonlinna Schaumanintie Depot Staff Building

MH-Rakenne Oy built a new wooden staff building for the City of Savonlinna on the depot area. The building was constructed on-site, strictly adhering to P1 dust control requirements under external expert supervision during the work.

The project also included demolishing the old staff building on the site, and after the new building was completed, renovating the old civil defense shelter in the area. The entire project was executed in phases so that depot operations could continue throughout.

MH-Rakenne served as the main implementer, responsible for the overall construction, quality, schedules, and site safety. Subcontracting was about 10%, utilizing five selected subcontractors.

Asematie 14 Apartment Building Fire Restoration in Savonlinna

On Midsummer Night 2021, a lightning strike ignited a 6-story residential building in Savonlinna. The fire spread from the roof to the first floor. The fire and firefighting efforts caused extensive smoke, fire, and water damage, with the worst in the sixth floor.

Restoration of the apartment building began in January 2022.

Property engineer Toni Heinonen from Isto Group served as project manager and supervisor for the fire restoration throughout.

Though a large site, Toni found it an enjoyable challenge.

Savonlinna family company MH-Rakenne Oy acted as main contractor for the fire restoration. The company provided all services, including electrical and plumbing work plus surface overhauls.

Asematie 14 Apartment Building Resident Johanna Qvintus

Resident Johanna Qvintus of the Asematie 14 apartment building was actively involved in the fire restoration project as a member of the housing company board. She participated in monthly builder meetings.

Collaboration with MH-Rakenne Oy began in early 2022 after the insurance company approved the main contractor.

Johanna says the cooperation with the company was smooth and natural. The staff had good chemistry and the discussions were good dialogue.

– Staying on the project schedule was a positive surprise for Johanna.

The original schedule had residents returning home for Christmas, but they could move back in the fall.
