The technical committee approved the offer for Savonlinna’s old fire station on Tuesday. The goal is quick closing.
The city’s technical committee unanimously decided Tuesday to accept the offer to sell Savonlinna’s old fire station to the bidding company. Savonlinna construction firm MH-Rakenne offered €255,000 for the building on city-leased land including connections.
Unlike stated in the auction notice, the deal doesn’t require city council approval as it’s movable property. The €200,000 threshold applies only to fixed assets, says technical director Kari Tikkanen.
– We have no information on what the company plans to do in the building. We’ve mainly checked the company’s payment capacity beforehand, Tikkanen said before the meeting.
– The company plans to start building module production and is currently renovating Savonlinna’s ABC service station, so we believe it’s a solvent buyer.
Company CEO Mikko Hirvonen says the firm offering construction services to businesses and households is acquiring the fire station for its own use.
– This investment will be part of the company’s development and future. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal more yet. I’ll share details when things progress further, Hirvonen states.
The deal aims to close as quickly as possible. The goal is to move into new premises by March to plan required renovations.
The investment won’t affect the company’s plans to start building module production in Savonlinna’s Aholahdensaari, according to Hirvonen.
The company plans to invest €2.5 million in a new production building. The project is delayed due to ELY center processing backlogs.
– These are completely different things, even if similar, Hirvonen laughs.
Hirvonen considers the €255,000 offer a fair price given the building’s over 2,500 m² space.
Raksystems conducted partial condition assessments last spring for potential major renovations. The fire station property also had asbestos and hazardous material surveys.
The building needs repairs, which the company can handle in-house, per Hirvonen.
– That’s a big advantage. The facade needs work and window upgrades too. Indoor air issues aren’t as extensive as thought—they’re mainly in the lower floor.
The former fire station is on leased land. Business use can apply for a zoning variance.
